Who's eligible

You must:

  • be a domestic student (includes New Zealand citizens)
  • be enrolling in an identified faculty priority postgraduate course in Semester 2 2022
  • have an unconditional offer for Semester two and not accepted the offer prior to 14 days of the start of Semester 2 and received an email advising them of their eligibility
  • qualify as a domestic full fee-paying student
  • not have a Commonwealth Supported Place for their degree. 

Background

The Semester 2 Starter Postgraduate Scholarship supports students commencing certain postgraduate coursework priority degrees in Semester 2 2022. 

1. Background

a. Established in 2022 and funded by the External Relations portfolio, this Scholarship is awarded to postgraduate coursework students commencing in semester two in courses of priority as published on the website in the relevant year, the agreed courses are:

  • Master of Economics

  • Master of Education

  • Master of Commerce

  • Master of Public Policy

2. Eligibility

a. Domestic students who have an unconditional offer for Semester two admission for an agreed course and have not accepted the offer 14 days prior to the start of Semester 2, who go on to enrol for the agreed course in semester two of that year will be considered. A separate application is not required, eligible students will receive and email advising of their eligibility.

3. Selection

a. Applicant must fulfil criteria below to be awarded the scholarship. Applicants must:

  1. Have received an unconditional offer of admission to an agreed course

  2. Be a domestic full fee-paying domestic student

  3. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students or their nominated delegate.

4. Amount

a. The Scholarship is tenable for one semester only
b. The scholarship awarded amount will depend on credit points enrolled in the awarded semester after census date: $8000 for 18 or more credit points,

or $4,000 for 12 to 17 credit points
c. The Scholarship value will be paid within 30 days after the census date of Semester 2
d. Deferral and/or suspension of the scholarship is not permitted
e. The Scholarship cannot be transferred to another coursework program within another school, faculty, or university f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds
g. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

  1. withdraws from an Agreed course or fails to enrol,

  2. does not enrol in a minimum of 12 credit points of study in the awarded semester,

  3. becomes a recipient of a Commonwealth Supported place for their eligible degree,

  4. transfers to another program (course),

  5. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

  6. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
