1. Background
a. This scholarship was established in 2021, to provide support to undergraduate students enrolled in a field relevant to infrastructure including but not limited to finance, commerce, economics, engineering, constructure, environmental science or law at the University of Sydney.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be a domestic student commencing an undergraduate coursework degree (including combined degrees), on a full- time basis, within the University of Sydney.
b. The applicant must be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit,
II. evidence of financial disadvantage,
III. a personal statement demonstrating the following:
a. their interest to pursue a career in infrastructure,
b. their leadership skills, involvement in extracurricular activities, and
c. how a tertiary education will enable them to fulfil their goals.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) or their nominated delegate. The selection committee may include relevant faculty representatives.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $25,000 per annum and is tenable for the maximum of five years of an undergraduate degree or combined undergraduate degree.
b. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Scholarship Office.
d. The Scholarship recipient is expected to enrol full-time in the agreed program during the tenure of their scholarship. Recipients may hold the scholarship part-time due to extenuating circumstances such as a medical condition which limits the student’s capacity to undertake full-time study. An application for a part-time scholarship must be submitted to the Scholarships Office for consideration. If a part-time scholarship is approved, payment will be 50% of the amount of the normal semester payment.
e. The Scholarship may be suspended under extenuating circumstances. Approval for suspension is on a case-by-case basis upon application to the Scholarships Office.
f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
g. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. The Scholarship will be paid in two instalments. To receive the second instalment of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65.
b. The Scholarship cannot be extended or renewed.
c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
V. is awarded an alternative primary scholarship. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship where the alternative scholarship is of higher value,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
