The following prizes are established to recognise students enrolled in any Faculty at the University of Sydney for their outstanding academic achievement. 

These prizes do not require an application.

 

University of Sydney Academic Merit Prize

This prize is awarded to students with academic excellence in their undergraduate degree.

Eligibility criteria

Students must have:

  • been enrolled in an undergraduate degree in the relevant calendar year
  • completed a minimum of 24 credit points in their undergraduate degree in the relevant calendar year
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) in the relevant calendar year of at least 85.

Selection criteria

The prize will be awarded to eligible students with the highest AAM in their Faculty of enrolment in the relevant calendar year.

Not all eligible students will be awarded the prize due to limited funding available.

Value

The prize has a maximum value of $1,000 to students who have completed 48 credit points or more in their undergraduate degree in the relevant calendar year.

The value of the prize will be pro-rated (rounded up to the nearest dollar) based on the number of credit points completed in the student's undergraduate degree in the relevant calendar year.

Dean's List of Excellence in Academic Performance

This prize is awarded to students based on academic excellence. The eligibility criteria varies depending on your Faculty of enrolment in the relevant calendar year. See below further details for each Faculty.

This is a non-monetary prize which will be listed on your academic transcript.

Criteria

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
  • completed a minimum of 24 credit points in their undergraduate degree 
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 85.

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in a Bachelor degree (including appended honours) in the Faculty of Engineering
  • completed a minimum of 36 credit points in their eligible degree
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 85.

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Medicine and Health
  • completed a minimum of 48 credit points in their undergraduate degree 
  • achieved an Annual Average Mark (AAM) of at least 75 
  • not received the University of Sydney Academic Merit Prize

OR

  • been enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree
  • completed at least 48 credit points in their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree
  • achieved a converted mark of at least 85*

*Using a rigorous and equitable methodology all Satisfied Requirements (SR) grades are converted to a numerical mark by the Sydney Medical School (SMS) Assessment team under the direction Assessment Director, Sydney Medical School (SMS)

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in a coursework degree in the Faculty of Science
  • completed a minimum of 36 credit points in their coursework degree
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 85.

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in an undergraduate degree in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
  • completed a minimum of 24 credit points in their undergraduate degree 
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 85
  • not recieved the University of Sydney Academic Merit Prize

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in a Bachelor of Law degree
  • completed a minimum of 48 credit points in their Bachelor of Law degree
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 80.

OR

  • been enrolled in a Juris Doctor degree
  • completed a minimum of 24 credit points in their Juris Doctor degree
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 80.

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in an undegraduate degree in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning
  • completed at least 24 credit points in their undergraduate degree
  • achieved an Annual Average Mark (AAM) of at least 85

OR

  • been enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning
  • completed at least 24 credit points in their undergraduate or postgraduate degree
  • achieved an Annual Average Mark (AAM) of at least 75
  • be ranked in the top 5% of students enrolled in their course based on AAM*

*If 5% of the enrolments in a course is less than 0 for the relevant calendar year, then no prizes will be awarded for that course. 

Students must meet the below criteria to be awarded the prize in the relevant calendar year:

  • been enrolled in a coursework degree in the University of Sydney Business School
  • completed a minimum of 24 credit points in their eligible degree
  • achieved an annual average mark (AAM) of at least 85.
