Midhili Ravikumar

Master of Sustainability
Midhili is a current Master of Sustainability student from India. She shares why she decided to study sustainability at Sydney, her experience and future aspirations.

Why did you choose your degree?

I am engineering graduate from India, where I worked in the Information Technology sector for 9 years and as a small-scale entrepreneur for one and a half years. My interest in sustainability grew after the birth of my daughter, when I became more aware of how human beings have been impacting Earth and its climate. I started to think how different and difficult the future might be and decided to study sustainability because I felt knowing more is the first step towards making a change.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Sydney?

The University of Sydney offered a world class multi-disciplinary master’s course in sustainability which covered both theoretical and practical aspects needed for a sustainability professional. It would also give me a global exposure since it attracts students from all over the world.

What are you enjoying most about this course?

Meeting like-minded people who are passionate about sustainability. I also enjoy the insightful and thought-provoking lectures and conversations with my very knowledgeable professors.

What are your future aspirations?

I hope to become a sustainability analyst or consultant and help to run a sustainable business. The course is helping me understand in detail the sustainability issues different countries are facing and how to arrive at solutions. In the coming semesters, I hope it will equip me with necessary skills and tools needed to be a sustainability professional as well.
