Commonwealth Prac Payment

Eligible students in teaching, nursing, or social work who undertake mandatory placements may qualify for financial assistance to help ease cost-of-living pressures.

Commonwealth Prac Payment

If you're completing a mandatory course placement for your teaching, nursing, or social work degree, you may be eligible for the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP).

The 2026 weekly rate is $338.60 (benchmarked to the single Austudy rate and indexed each year). The 2025 weekly rate is $331.65 and applies to any retrospective payments for placements undertaken in 2025.

The payment was introduced by the Australian Government to help ease cost-of-living pressures. By providing this support, the government aims to ensure students can complete their studies and enter the workforce - helping to address shortages in these important sectors.

If eligible, you'll need to apply directly to the University and supply supporting documents.

If you received CPP in the 2025-26 financial year, we'll send your CPP End of Financial Year statement 2025-2026 to your University email account by 8 July 2026. You'll need this to complete your 2025-26 tax return as CPP is assessable income.
