Enrol in a new course

How to enrol

Need help enrolling?

The Student Centre is running a series of troubleshooting webinars on the enrolment process. The sessions will include a walkthrough of the enrolment task in Sydney Student, as well as providing the opportunity to ask questions. Book your place now

Once you’re ready, enrol online by logging in to Sydney Student. Go to ‘My studies’ then ‘Enrolment’ and you’re set to go.

There are several sections to complete as part of your enrolment. You can log out and return later if you need to.

Your enrolment comes with certain conditions so it’s important to understand them. You should also familiarise yourself with our privacy policy regarding the personal information you supply during enrolment.

Personal details

You’ll be asked to:

  • review your personal details including name and date of birth. You can update these details if you need to, but in some instances you may need to upload supporting documents
  • confirm your residency and citizenship status. If these details are incorrect you will need to update them and provide supporting documents. In some situations, you may not be able to complete enrolment until we have verified these changes.

Address and demographics

You'll be asked to:

  • confirm your contact details. This includes a permanent address where we can contact you outside each semester or after you finish your studies, and a residential address which is where you currently live
  • provide at least one emergency contact.

You'll also be asked some demographic questions required by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.

Unit of study selection

Depending on your course, you may need to select your program, major(s), minor or specialisation. You'll be able to browse and select from the options available to you. Not all students will see this step on the enrolment task.

In this section, you will select your units of study for the year. You need to select units that meet the requirements of your course. We have a dedicated page to help you choose your units that we recommend you refer to during this stage in your enrolment. You can also get help submitting an enrolment exception request or apply for departmental permission.

You can’t select units held in an intensive session before the commencement date outlined on your offer letter. A session code will appear next to each unit in your unit of study selection screen telling you which session that unit falls in. You can then check the dates and codes used for each session on our key dates page.

Not all students will see this step of the enrolment task. In some situations, we will enrol you in your required units of study, for example, if you're a cross-institutional, non-award, or study abroad/exchange student.

Once you have submitted and confirmed your units of study, you won't be able to navigate back to make changes. You'll need to complete the other steps and submit your enrolment first. Then if you want to change your units, you can do this in the unit of study selection screen (go to 'My studies' then 'Units of study').

Finances

Here you’ll be shown a summary of your fees, including information about your Student Services and Amenities Fee (if applicable).

If you’re a domestic student eligible for HELP you'll then be asked to fill out the necessary Australian Government HELP forms.

Final steps

You will need to:

  • confirm your expected completion date
  • review the information on travel concessions.

You will then be asked to review and 'submit' your enrolment information. If you don't 'submit' your enrolment information, you haven't technically enrolled and won't be able to start classes.

Once you’ve completed your enrolment we’ll send you an email to your University student email account to confirm the information you provided. Check these details and make sure you contact us if anything is incorrect.

Check your fees

You’ll now be able to look up your financial information under 'My finances' in Sydney Student. To prevent any late charges or delays, please pay your fees by the due date shown on your Student Financial Statement. Find out more about fees.

Collect your student card

If you didn’t upload a photo during the enrolment task make sure you do now. Once your student card is ready we’ll email you to let you know where you can pick it up. You can also download a digital version of your student card.
