If you’re starting at the University of Sydney as an international student this semester, International Student Welcome Day is the one Welcome event you’ll definitely want to lock into your calendar. The event is repeated across two days, Thursday 12 and Friday 13 February, but you'll only need to attend one session.

Designed especially for new international students, this event is your official welcome to the our community – and a great way to feel settled, supported and connected from day one.

As part of International Welcome, you'll get to experience an Aboriginal dance performance.

What happens on the day?

International Student Welcome Day kicks off with a traditional Aboriginal dance performance and Welcome to Country, recognising the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land.

You’ll then head into a formal welcome session in the Great Hall, where you’ll hear practical advice and essential information to help you transition into uni life in Australia. This includes:

  • where to find student support services
  • tips for staying healthy and looking after your wellbeing
  • how to get involved in student life
  • advice from current students who’ve been in your shoes

It’s a great opportunity to get your bearings and find out where to go for help when you need it.

Meet new people and explore campus

After the formal proceedings, you’ll be able to:

  • check out information booths in the Quadrangle
  • meet other international students starting this semester
  • chat with University teams and student organisations
  • ask questions and get practical advice

The day wraps up with social activities and lunch, giving you plenty of chances to make new friends and start building your community.

You'll have a chance to see The Quad and make new friends.
