EDMT6604: Drama Curriculum 3

2024 unit information

This unit continues preparing students for the teaching of secondary Drama. The course will extend the students' experience in teaching devised performing. Students work with critical friends and mentors, collaborating with schools and other educational institutions, critically reflecting on their own and other people's work. Students undergo a group performance project where they learn of the rigorous nature of teaching collaborative drama experientially.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. identify and develop the facilitation of experiential learning within group devised drama process and self directed learning as required by drama syllabuses
  • LO2. develop strategies and resources for teaching and facilitating group devising processes
  • LO3. recognise and explicate the demands, development process, and learning goals of the HSC Individual Projects and develop pedagogical skills appropriate to the facilitation of such projects
  • LO4. develop and implement lessons and activity sequences aligned with explicated learning goals for the facilitation of the Individual Project and Group Performance
  • LO5. demonstrate an understanding of formative and summative assessment practices in drama education, particularly focused on group devised pieces and Individual Projects as outlined by the Stage 6 NSW Drama Syllabus
  • LO6. implement lesson plans in peer teaching scenarios with confidence, enthusiasm and an understanding of relevant assessment practices. Use constructive feedback from peers and tutors to critically reflect on and improve your teaching practice
  • LO7. reflect on your learning as a drama teacher in university, explore opportunities for further professional development and develop strategies for continued reflection and learning in drama education.
