EDMT6604: Drama Curriculum 3

Semester 1, 2025 [Normal day] - Camperdown/Darlington, Sydney

This unit continues preparing students for the teaching of secondary Drama. The course will extend the students' experience in teaching devised performing. Students work with critical friends and mentors, collaborating with schools and other educational institutions, critically reflecting on their own and other people's work. Students undergo a group performance project where they learn of the rigorous nature of teaching collaborative drama experientially.

Group devising portfolio: Utilise online resources and methods with 2-3 of your peers, create a group performance piece based on the requirements as stipulated by the HSC Drama syllabus and supporting documents from the Board of Studies. The portfolio must include:

  • Your reflections on the development of the work.
  • At least 2 resources and images that reflect the development of the work.
  • A 300 word rationale for your group performance as stipulated by the HSC Drama syllabus.
  • A 1500 word reflective essay on how you will use your experiences to develop teaching and learning activities and strategies.
  • A 500 word reflection on how your performance meets the Board of Studies criteria for group performance work.

Individual project peer teaching and assignment: Present a 20 minute practical task online as a peer teaching exercise on one of the designated individual projects. Will need to submit an individual project assignment that discusses the following:

  • A discussion of the role of the teacher and the benefits of student self-directed learning, using the individual project area as a case study
  • A discussion of the demands of the individual project and how the criteria and guidelines specifically inform the pedagogy and learning for that particular project
  • An analysis of the detailed skills and knowledge students need to develop in the project area
  • Some guidance about how skills and knowledge of the individual project might be developed and programmed in Stage 4 and/or 5
  • A practical task (presented as an online peer teaching exercise) that will assist students in the understanding of the individual project in Stage 4, 5 or 6
  • A suggested timeline for the student to develop the project in Year 12
  • Relevant resources for teaching and learning in the project area

Assessment criteria

The University awards common result grades, set out in the Coursework Policy 2014 (Schedule 1).

As a general guide, a High distinction indicates work of an exceptional standard, a Distinction a very high standard, a credit a good standard, and a pass an acceptable standard.

Except for supervised exams or in-semester tests, you may use generative AI and automated writing tools in assessments unless expressly prohibited by your unit coordinator. 

For exams and in-semester tests, the use of AI and automated writing tools is not allowed unless expressly permitted in the assessment instructions. 

The icons in the assessment table above indicate whether AI is allowed – whether full AI, or only some AI (the latter is referred to as “AI restricted”). If no icon is shown, AI use is not permitted at all for the task. Refer to Canvas for full instructions on assessment tasks for this unit. 

Your final submission must be your own, original work. You must acknowledge any use of automated writing tools or generative AI, and any material generated that you include in your final submission must be properly referenced. You may be required to submit generative AI inputs and outputs that you used during your assessment process, or drafts of your original work. Inappropriate use of generative AI is considered a breach of the Academic Integrity Policy and penalties may apply.

Late submission

In accordance with University policy, these penalties apply when written work is submitted after 11:59pm on the due date:

  • Deduction of 5% of the maximum mark for each calendar day after the due date.
  • After ten calendar days late, a mark of zero will be awarded.

Academic integrity

The Current Student website provides information on academic integrity and the resources available to all students. The University expects students and staff to act ethically and honestly and will treat all allegations of academic integrity breaches seriously.

We use similarity detection software to detect potential instances of plagiarism or other forms of academic integrity breach. If such matches indicate evidence of plagiarism or other forms of academic integrity breaches, your teacher is required to report your work for further investigation.

Simple extensions

If you encounter a problem submitting your work on time, you may be able to apply for an extension of five calendar days through a simple extension.  The application process will be different depending on the type of assessment and extensions cannot be granted for some assessment types like exams.

Special consideration

If exceptional circumstances mean you can’t complete an assessment, you need consideration for a longer period of time, or if you have essential commitments which impact your performance in an assessment, you may be eligible for special consideration or special arrangements.

Special consideration applications will not be affected by a simple extension application.

Attendance and class requirements

A note on attendance

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences requires attendance at a minimum of 90 per cent of all seminars, workshops or lectures, unless otherwise stated in a unit-of-study outline. If you are unable to attend at the required rate, you will need to apply for Special Consideration. Requests for Special Consideration must be accompanied by well-attested evidence of illness, injury or misadventure and the student may be required to undertake extra work.

The attendance requirement for every SSESW unit of study that differs from 90 per cent – for example, placements and mandated coursework in child protection where the requirement is 100 per cent – is made explicit in the applicable course handbook or Unit of Study outline.

 

Study commitment

Typically, there is a minimum expectation of 1.5-2 hours of student effort per week per credit point for units of study offered over a full semester. For a 6 credit point unit, this equates to roughly 120-150 hours of student effort in total.

If you are undertaking professional experience/field education placement as part of your enrolment in this unit of study, please assess your specific needs and requirements for the safe and successful completion of an external placement within a host organisation.
