2026 unit information

This unit of study builds upon on understandings and knowledge gained during the previous specialisation unit. Students will continue to consider key issues impacting on whether and how schools offer primary languages programs in NSW primary schools. The unit has a particular focus on the topics of digital literacies, diversity, depth of pedagogical knowledge, assessment, and content and language integrated teaching.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate an ability to select appropriate reading material in the target language for a Stage 2 or 3 learner group and design suitable learning tasks with digital technologies for the learner group to engage interculturally with the reading material
  • LO2. Demonstrate the ability to design appropriate assessment tasks based on the reading material and assess intercultural learning.
  • LO3. Demonstrate an understanding of effective language teaching and programs in NSW primary schools and explore community (especially parents’) perceptions of language education within the primary school curriculum.
  • LO4. Design student-centred, inclusive, creative and challenging learning experiences that cater for students from a range of cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • LO5. Demonstrate familiarity with current educational theories regarding discipline and curriculum including cross-curriculum priorities
