This unit of study explores standard magnetic resonance imaging sequences, protocols, and techniques used in clinical musculoskeletal imaging and their applications. These techniques include variations of spin echo, gradient echo, and inversion recovery. MRI hardware, RF coils, spatial image encoding, fat suppression techniques, and common image artifacts as well as MR safety aspects are discussed. Learning is supported by websites and video resources together with texts and peer-reviewed clinical and research publications to demonstrate the appropriate application of different MR sequences and modifications required for various MSK patient presentations.
