PHAR4820: Industry and Community Project

2026 unit information

In Industry and Community Project units students work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams on complex ‘real world’ problems under a theme identified and refined by students with mentorship of industry and community organisation partners. Briefed by the partners and guided by project supervisors, students work within a design thinking and entrepreneurship framework to build their own projects in finding solutions to the problem. They engage in collaborative and self-directed inquiry-based research to propose innovative solutions and recommendations to contemporary problems. Students will also work to develop their professional identity through professional development and networking activities, and structured reflective practice. This experience will equip students with an agile mindset and skills that will assist them to successfully navigate dynamic future environments and career paths. See the ICPU website for further information here: https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/industry-and-community-projects/4000-level-projects.html. Enrolment in ICPUs is a two-step process involving enrolment in a shell-unit followed by registration into an individual project. Registration must be completed before the project start date and is subject to availability. Enrolment is contingent on the submission of a Deed poll.
