2026 unit information
This subject provides research degree students with an introduction to qualitative research and theoretical skills that enables them to engage with the highest quality research literatures and understand the issues that frame the debates encountered. Organisation and management theory is the platform on which much scholarship in the Project Management Discipline rides. Topics include qualitative research methods; current and historical theoretical perspectives; meta-theoretical approaches to management and organisation theory, and epistemological and ontological issues in theorising organisations and management.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. Explain different methodological and theoretical approaches to organisation and management theory
- LO2. Critically evaluate contemporary issues in theorizing, organisation and management, with reference to the broad field of project management.
- LO3. Review processes of theory construction
- LO4. Examine types of arguments and evidence used to justify and elaborate different types of theorising, research and writing practices, including the use of AI.
