This unit is an extension of work done in SANS1001. By the end of the unit, students will have covered the grammar necessary for reading simple Sanskrit texts.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate further improvement of fluency in reading Devanagari script
  • LO2. demonstrate further knowledge of the principles and rules governing the combination of sounds (sa¿dhi)
  • LO3. command the principal grammatical features of the language
  • LO4. translate and construct more complex sentences in Sanskrit
  • LO5. understand the literature composed in Sanskrit and of the history and context for production of these texts.
