SEXH5412: Sexual Health and Relationships Education

2024 unit information

Sexual Health and relationships education is a key component of the public health response to sexual and reproductive health issues. This unit of study will explore the evidence base, frameworks and approaches to sexual health and relationships education from a public health perspective. International and Australian frameworks and tools will be applied when developing, delivering and evaluating sexual health and relationships education. Students will acquire key competencies in understanding the values of and attitudes towards relationships and sexual health and relationships education. Students will gain knowledge in choosing and applying appropriate theories, frameworks and tools and skills in delivering sexual health and relationships education with a population group and setting. Students will also develop skills in critically appraising policy and approaches to sexual health and relationship education development. On completion of the unit, students will be able to: (i) Understand values and attitudes toward sexual and health relationships education; (ii) Critically appraise various policies and approaches to sexual health and relationship education development; (iii) Choose and apply appropriate theories, frameworks and tools in delivering sexual health and relationships education; (iv) Develop the skills in planning and conducting an education session for a chosen population group and setting to enhance their sexual health and relationship literacy.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
