The Confucius Institute Courses and Workshops - Enrol now!

The University of Sydney Confucius Institute is the first Confucius Institute established in New South Wales. It operates under an agreement between The University of Sydney and the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) in China, in partnership with Fudan University in Shanghai. The Institute launch ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Old Teachers’ College on June 17, 2008.

The role of the University of Sydney Confucius Institute is to provide Chinese language and culture classes and programs of the highest academic standards to the greater Sydney community. As cultural and business ties between Australia and China become ever more important, there is an increasing need to provide the Australian public with more opportunities for understanding the long cultural history of China as well as the rapidly changing and complex society of modern day China. The Institute will help open doors in China, for Australians wishing to establish more mutually beneficial connections between Australia and China.

The Institute provides a unique insider’s view of Chinese culture and traditions and enhances the ability of businesspeople and the general public to communicate effectively with their Chinese counterparts, both linguistically and culturally. The Institute will deliver three workshops and one language course in 2008. These include “Mapping Modern Chinese History”, “China's Legal Revolution” and “Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine”.
