The Penelope Visiting Professor in Architectural History

The Penelope Visiting Professor in Architectural History brings a leading international scholar to the School of Architecture, Design and Planning to advance research, teaching and public dialogue on architectural history.

The University of Sydney has taught architectural history since 1884, with students learning from influential figures including Sir John Sulman, David Saunders, Joan Kerr, Lloyd Rees, Jennifer Taylor and Trevor Howells.

Established in 2018 through a gift from architect and alumna Penelope Seidler AO, the Penelope Visiting Professor program strengthens the University’s long tradition of architectural history teaching.

During their appointment, visiting professors conduct new research, collaborate with academics and students, deliver lectures and seminars and positions Australian architectural works in global discussions.
