6 tips for successful admission into our part-time MBA

Make your application stand out
Applying to study an MBA can be a daunting experience. With fairly rigorous entry processes and admission criteria, it’s important that your application stands out from the crowd.

Here are our top tips to help you secure your place in our part-time MBA.

1. Attend a taster class

At the University of Sydney Business School, we hold regular MBA Taster Classes to give you an insight into the MBA classroom experience. Facilitated by our MBA Program Director, Professor Guy Ford, you will get a real taste of our experiential part-time MBA, providing you with the opportunity to see how classes are run and how content is shaped in an engaged learning environment. The taster classes also give you the opportunity to ask questions, meet academics and speak to our admissions staff about your future study options.

2. Tell us your goals

We want to know what you hope to achieve both professionally and personally by completing an MBA. Through a one-page statement of motivation, tell us what your goals are by giving us insight to where you are at in your career and how the MBA fits into your ambitions. This will help us to ensure our part-time MBA is the right fit for you and that it meets your expectations.

3. Show us how you stand out

Show us how you stand out from the crowd either professionally or personally, and what characteristics you can bring to the MBA. We ensure our cohorts are rich in diversity so our students get the most out of their MBA experience.

We have students from finance, law, journalism, sport, not-for-profit, and government sectors, and we are proud to have the first MBA cohort in the country to admit more females than males – a considerable achievement considering women average between 30 and 35 percent of MBA participants.

4. Do your research

Do your research into why a University of Sydney Business School MBA is for you. Have you thought about the style of teaching and how it’s suitable to you? Did you attend a taster class and liked what you experienced? What were the key insights? Have you talked with our alumni? Is it because of our reputation? We want to know why our MBA is your number one choice.

5. Speak with our MBA team and alumni

The MBA is a major investment, not only for yourself as an individual but also for your family and employer. It is important that you are fully aware of what you are about to embark on and best prepare yourself to start off on the right foot.

Our MBA program staff are available to answer any questions you may have, such as how the part-time MBA is designed, how it differs from other programs, its admission requirements, scholarships and graduate opportunities. We have a growing MBA student and alumni community who are happy to speak to prospective students about the MBA and their experience. Let us know and we can put you in touch.

6. Bring your ‘A’ game to the interview

If your online application is successful you will be invited to a face-to-face interview. Be prepared and practice. The interviews are for you to demonstrate why you have chosen a University of Sydney Business School MBA, and a chance for us to make sure you are the right fit. It’s important that you are relaxed, authentic and self-aware throughout the interview.
