About the Nicholas Catchlove Lecture

The Nicholas Catchlove Lecture at the Charles Perkins Centre was established to share world-leading research about major global health issues, discoveries, and developments with the community. The Centre hosts a world-leading researcher to share their work through a public lecture.

It is generously supported by our long-time friend and patron, Dr Barry Catchlove, in memory of his son Nicholas.

About Barry Catchlove and Louise Sylvan

Dr Barry Catchlove has been a cornerstone supporter of the University of Sydney and the Charles Perkins Centre. An Honorary Fellow (2008), former Fellow of Senate, and Honorary Doctor of Medicine and Health (2022), Dr Catchlove’s philanthropic visionary leadership spans multiple generations of health researchers.

Through the Nicholas Catchlove Early Career Researcher Development Fund and the Catchlove Sylvan Mid-Career Researcher Fellowships, Barry and his partner Louise Sylvan provide essential pathways for researchers tackling diabetes, cardiovascular health, and obesity. Their support also powers the Charles Perkins Centre Summer Scholarship program, mentoring future research leaders across discipline boundaries. Established in memory of his late son, the Nicholas Catchlove Lecture is the Centre’s flagship public event, bringing global scientific minds to the wider community.
