Lost items

If you have lost something, we recommend you:

 • re-trace your steps to see if you can identify where you lost your item
 • call or visit the location to see if it has been handed in (if you know where you lost your item)
 • log a lost property report or visit the front desk at the Services Building (G12) to see if your property has been handed in
 • submit a police report, if you want to.

We recommend that you label your property, particularly valuable items such as a laptop or a USB drive. This increases the likelihood that we can safely return your property to you if it is handed in.

Found items

If you find or receive a lost item, please drop it off at the front desk of the Services Building (G12).

Items handed in to Protective Services are stored in the Property Room at the Services Building (G12) for up to three months. Unclaimed items are then donated to charity or sustainably recycled.

Uncollected University of Sydney student cards are returned weekly to Level 3, Jane Foss Russell Building (G02), which is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 am – 5 pm and Tuesday and Thursday, 10 am – 5 pm.

Some items are not stored and are disposed of as follows:

 • Other uncollected identification (licences, passports, etc.) is held for one week and then destroyed to protect the owner's privacy.
 • USBs and flash drives are recycled through a secure E-Waste service.
 • Lunch boxes, coffee cups and drink bottles are disposed of immediately as a matter of work health and safety.
