A minor in Diversity Studies provides students with an interdisciplinary and applied understanding of cultural diversity in its many forms. You will learn about the histories and experiences of minority groups, including people of colour, women, LGBTQI+ people and those with disabilities. The minor examines how racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, ableism, ageism, and other forms of discrimination shape social life and produce inequality. At the same time, it explores ways of understanding difference as a source of knowledge, creativity, and social possibility, and consider how cultural diversity can contribute to social transformation in an increasingly global world.
This minor equips you with a range of frameworks for understanding and addressing questions of social justice across professional and community contexts. You will develop the compacity to work independently and collaboratively on issues of diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence, and strengthen your analytical skills to think critically about how these concepts operate in different contexts.
You will undertake units of study from a range of disciplines, including Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Education and Social Work, Australian Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, and Government and International Relations.
The Diversity Studies minor requirements are listed in theĀ Diversity Studies unit of study table.
