Course resolutions
The course resolutions detailed in this page apply to all courses included in the table below under section 1 (course codes).
These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. 2 Attendance pattern
(1) Candidates must complete the requirements for the course full-time over two consecutive semesters. If the Faculty is satisfied that a student is unable to undertake the course on a full-time basis and if the Associate Dean so recommends, permission may be granted to undertake the course part-time over four consecutive semesters.
3 Admission to candidature
To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Economics (Honours), an applicant must have:
(a) completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Economics at the University of Sydney, including a major in the proposed honours subject area with a minimum weighted average mark of 70, or equivalent qualification; and
(b) For the Economics subject area: completed advanced 2000- and 3000-level units of study in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematical economics, and applied econometrics; or
(c) For the Econometrics subject area: completed advanced 2000-level units of study in microeconomics and macroeconomics; and
(d) the approval of the School of Economics honours coordinator or delegate.
4 Requirements for award
(1) The honours subject areas that may be taken in the Bachelor of Economics (Honours) are:
(a) Economics
(b) Econometrics
(2) The units of study that may be taken for the course are set out in Table A for the Bachelor of Economics.
(3) To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Economics (Honours), a candidate must complete 48 credit points of 4000-level units of study in the Economics or Econometrics honours subject area.
5 Award of the degree
(1) The Bachelor of Economics (Honours) is awarded in classes according to the table and rules specified in the Coursework Policy and the resolutions of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
(2) The grade of honours will be determined by an honours mark calculated as specified in the Faculty resolutions.
(3) Internal candidates for the award of the honours degree who do not meet the requirements and who have not already graduated, will be awarded the pass degree.
6 Transitional provisions
(1) These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2025. Students who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January 2025 should complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement.
