Strategic vision

At Sydney Law School, our ambition is clear:

  • Our students flourish and graduates thrive
  • Our researchers collaborate with colleagues and partner externally to tackle the hardest questions of our time
  • We engage critically and constructively with AI in legal education and practice
  • We advance First Nations legal knowledges and strengthen cross-cultural competence in law
  • Our community is a place of respect, support and inspiration

Grounded in the University’s values of trust, accountability and excellence, we aspire to be one of the most exciting and empowering places in the world to study, research and collaborate in law.

Our shared purpose is to:

  • produce field-shaping legal research that contributes to public debate and the pursuit of justice
  • educate adaptable, ethical and service-oriented legal leaders
  • contribute to interdisciplinary inquiry on the most pressing challenges facing law and society

Our strategic plan has been shaped by conversations with staff, students, alumni and partners across our community, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed their insights.

For law students, legal education becomes meaningful when it equips us with knowledge and, crucially, with the confidence and responsibility to apply it within an evolving professional and social landscape. Learning to thrive in the face of change, rather than merely exist alongside it, is increasingly central to how students approach their development.
