At the heart of our strategy is a commitment to high-value research that prioritises outcomes that matter most to children, their families, and consumers more broadly.

With an emphasis on consumer-centred initiatives, we aim to work closely with diverse communities, ensuring that research is co-designed to align with the needs and priorities of consumers.

This consumer-driven approach, alongside its emphasis on strategic partnerships, ensures that our research addresses real-world challenges while fostering long-term relationships with key stakeholders.

For Consumers

Authentic children engagement follows the principle “Nothing about us without us”. This principle, which is widely applied in rights-based and inclusive practice, underscores the importance of directly involving people affected by decisions in shaping those decisions.

CCAHR’s Children Engagement Program is a five-year program from January 2026 - October 2030. We aim to conduct consumer engagement activities with children, young people, families and communities as part of our research co-design.

As part of this program, children and young people will be invited to become members of the CCAHR Youth Consumer Cluster to embed children and youth voices in Centre development, guide research priorities and participate in research co-design and promote community engagement.

If you are a consumer and want to get involved contact us at cah.centre@sydney.edu.au

CCAHR’s Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) Framework for Children and Young People aims to support meaningful partnerships with children, young people, families and communities across child and adolescent health research by providing practical guidance for engaging consumers throughout the research process, from setting priorities to sharing findings.

The CEI framework is undergoing review with experts, consumers and people with lived experience. It will also be co-designed with children and young people in New South Wales, so that the voices of children and young people help shape the research that affects them.

CCAHR's High School Outreach Program extends an established Faculty of Medicine and Health high school outreach program, developed by Dr Jin Huang and Prof Andrew Harman.

Delivered by CCAHR at the Westmead Health Precinct, this program brings hands-on science and well-being activities to Year 7 and 8 students across four schools, grounded in CCAHR's consumer engagement approach.

CCAHR’s Youth Journalist Project “Little Big Questions” invited young people aged 18–25 to interview CCAHR researchers about their experiences as clinicians and researchers. Working with a university mentor, youth journalists developed and asked their own questions, exploring health research through a young person's lens. Interviews were filmed at Westmead Children's Hospital and viewed at the Centre’s Launch on 25 June 2026.
