Rex: The Seven Kings of Rome book cover

In this talk, Dr Peta Greenfield and Dr Fiona Radford from The Partial Historians podcast will take you through some of the most valuable lessons they learnt while writing their first book, Rex: The Seven Kings of Rome (Highlands Press).

The regal period of Roman history is studied much less than other periods of Rome. This is a tragedy as there are many fascinating details about Roman culture and society contained in the mythic-history of the kings who once ruled over this civilisation.

The doctors will dissect the events in the narrative and annalistic sources on this period, before extracting important takeaways, including:

  • What to do if a phallus starts floating in your fire

  • How to cure an axe to the head

  • How to use a wild storm to hide your ambitions for power

  • How to break up with your partner and go into business for yourself

The evening will include the formal launch of Rex: The Seven Kings of Rome (2023).
