Visit the newly designed Glass studios where students work with various techniques and processes to create both small scale objects and larger scale sculptural, installation-based artworks.
SCA’s glass facilities house state-of-the-art equipment, including a newly designed Hot Glass Studio where artists can explore glass blowing and hot sculpting. The studio also offer a highly advanced kiln forming studio for glass fusing, slumping and flameworking, combined with a well-equipped cold glass studio featuring lathes, diamond saws, linishers, suhners, core drills, engraving stations, and flatbed grinders.
The demonstration will be led by Technical Officer Cobi Butcher.
This event is presented in conjunction with the The Lens of Perception: A Panel Discussion on Glass. A ticket to this demonstration also includes access to the panel discussion.

A mastery of technique and pioneering spirit firmly establish Cobi as one of Australia’s foremost award-winning artists working in glass. Two-time winner (four-time finalist) of the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s prestigious Tom Malone Award, Winner of the JamFactory’s FUSE Glass Prize in 2020 and incidentally the first glass finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Wynne Prize, Cobi continues to make strides in the Australian artworld and beyond to include the Lino Tagliapietra Prize and Talente in Germany and Emerge in the USA. Her work is also held in many leading private and public collections around the world such as the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, the Knoxville Museum of Art and the Palm Springs Art Museum. Earning her Masters of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney, and her Honours Degree at the Australian National University, Canberra, Cobi continues to channel her passion for art and education as a lecturer and senior technician at Sydney Collage of the Arts (University of Sydney). Acknowledging the timeless tradition of glassmaking, Cobi remains committed to the age-old practice of handing down generational wisdom for emerging artists.
