Protest! A panel discussion on the history of student activism on campus

Panel discussion
This event has now been postponed.

In conjunction with the University of Sydney Union, join us for a fascinating panel discussion on John Young’s 1974 painting May Day March (UA2019.177).

The University of Sydney has a long tradition of student protests from anti-conscription protests of World War One to the Vietnam War, anti-nuclear and anti-apartheid protests in the late 20th century and into the 21st century with campaigns on various issues. Our current prime minister even famously took part in student protests of the early 1980s.

In this panel discussion, current student activists will discuss modern issues of concern for the student body, reflect upon how current student activism is similar or different from protests of the past, and reveal what is activating the current student body politically and socially.

The panel includes Harrison Brennan, the current president of the University of Sydney’s Student Representative Council and Ethan Floyd from the University of Sydney Union board.

More panelists to be announced.
