The University of Sydney Senate has appointed Robin Low as Fellow of Senate from 1 December 2026 and Dr Amelia Hill Salter as Chair of Senate’s Finance Investment Subcommittee. The appointments follow the conclusion of Dr Lisa McIntyre’s term as a Fellow of Senate on 30 November after more than nine years of dedicated service to the University’s peak governing body.

Robin is an experienced non-executive director with extensive expertise in financial oversight, audit, risk management and corporate governance. She currently chairs the audit and finance committees of health insurer HCF and its life insurance business, HCF Life, and the audit and risk committees at global technology business Appen and e-commerce company Articore.

University of Sydney Chancellor David Thodey AO welcomed Robin’s appointment.

“Robin will bring exceptional expertise in financial oversight, audit, risk and governance that will strengthen Senate’s ability to steward the University through a period of significant change and opportunity,” the Chancellor said.

“She also brings a strong understanding of the higher education and research operating environment as we pursue our goals for a great student experience and academic excellence,” he added. “She is a former board member of the Sydney Medical School Foundation, has been a member of the University of NSW audit committee since 2021, and currently serves on the board of the Sax Institute.”

Already an external member of Senate’s Finance Committee, Robin has been appointed for a four-year term as an external Fellow of Senate from 1 December 2026. She will also be a member of Senate’s Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.

Her other current not-for-profit appointments include serving on the board of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and Yalari, a not-for-profit organisation that provides educational opportunities for Indigenous children. A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Robin is a member of the committee that provides input to the AICD on emerging reporting requirements and issues. She is also a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (FCA).

Robin said she was honoured to join the University’s governing body.

“The University has a proud history and a vital contribution to make to Australia’s future. I look forward to working with Senate to support the University’s mission and its contribution to our nation.”

“With my longstanding interest in education, I particularly look forward to contributing to the student experience and future opportunities for our graduates.”

Before her board career, Robin spent more than 28 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, including more than 17 years as a partner specialising in financial services, audit, risk and assurance.

The Chancellor also paid tribute to Dr Lisa McIntyre, who has served as a Fellow of Senate since 2017, and as Pro-Chancellor since 2023.

“On behalf of Senate, I thank Lisa for her outstanding service to the University. As Chair of the Senate Finance Investment Subcommittee, she has provided valuable leadership and governance oversight of an investment portfolio that plays a critical role in supporting the University's long-term financial position and strategic objectives.”

“More broadly, Senate has greatly benefited from her experience in the governance of large and complex organisations, particularly her expertise and interest in biotechnology, medical and health services research.”

Dr Amelia Hill Salter will succeed Lisa as Chair of the Senate Finance Investment Subcommittee for a two-year term of office commencing 1 December 2026. An alumna of the University and member of the Alumni Council, Amelia is already an external member of Senate’s Finance Committee.

“Amelia has made a significant contribution to the Finance Committee’s work over the past two years, particularly in relation to financial oversight, investment governance and strategic financial decision-making,” the Chancellor said.

“Her appointment as Chair of Senate’s Finance Investment Subcommittee will support continuity of leadership across the University's finance and investment governance framework and maintain strong alignment with the Finance Committee.”
