The SMART trial (Spinal cord injury, Mind and heART trial)

This trial involves training participants in regulated breathing techniques and mindfulness strategies to improve heart and brain function.

Benefits may include better blood pressure regulation and mood, as well as reduced cardiac issues, sleep problems, brain fog, pain, and fatigue. Participants will learn and practice these techniques during training sessions with trained therapists and can continue at home for possible long-term benefits. 

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • aged 18–70 years
  • have a spinal cord injury and live in New South Wales (NSW), Australia
  • are at least 12-months post-injury
  • english speaking
