    • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in American Studies or
    • Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Honours) in American Studies
  • must undertake a project or activity related to the advancement of their honours research.

Background

This Scholarship was established to assist students studying the American Studies Honours program at the University of Sydney. The Scholarship is intended to support financial costs related to the advancement of the student's research.

This Scholarship is funded by the United States Studies Centre (the Centre).

1. Background

a. This Scholarship was established to provide assistance to students studying the American Studies Honours program at the University of Sydney. The Scholarship is intended to support financial costs related to the advancement of the student's research.

b. This Scholarship is funded by the United States Studies Centre (the Centre).

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in full-time study in one of the following degrees within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney:

I. Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in American Studies, or

II. Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Honours) in American Studies.

b. Applicants must undertake a project or activity related to the advancement of their honours research.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and

II. a budget summary and justification on how the scholarship funds will be used and how they will assist in the advancement of their research.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a Selection Committee consisting of:

I. the Academic Director and Chair of American Studies, or

II. their nominated delegates, and

III. at least one other academic member from the Centre.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $1,666.66.

b. The Scholarship value will be paid as a one-off payment on receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance Form and being enrolled full-time.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without prior permission of the Academic Director and Chair of the United States Study Centre.

d. The Scholarship is not transferable to another school, faculty, university, or course.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from the eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless termination was due to university error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient will be reimbursed.

6. Other requirements

a. The recipient must provide the honours coordinator with reliable contact details for the duration of their honour’s degree.
