  • be currently enrolled either in a full time or part time in the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor within the Sydney Law School
  • have been accepted into the Shanghai Winter School program
  • enrol in LAWS3068 or LAWS5368 Chinese Laws and Chinese Legal Systems.

Background

This scholarship was established by a donation from Ashurst (formerly Blake Dawson) to support students from the University of Sydney Law School who are participating in the Shanghai Winter School, held at the East China University of Political Science and Law.

1. Background

a. This scholarship was established by a donation from Ashurst (formerly Blake Dawson) to support students from the University of Sydney Law School who are participating in the Shanghai Winter School, held at the East China University of Political Science and Law.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be currently enrolled either in a full time or part time in the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor within the Sydney Law School.

b. Applicants must have been accepted into the Shanghai Winter School program.

c. Applicants must enrol in LAWS3068 or LAWS5368 Chinese Laws and Chinese Legal Systems.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and
II. financial hardship.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Head of School and Dean of the University of Sydney Law School or their nominated delegate, and at least one other member of staff from the School.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued up to $2,600 and is paid as a one-off payment. The final value is determined by the selection committee and will be stipulated in the Offer Letter.

b. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Law School, or their nominee, and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

c. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

d. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws or fails to enrol in the Shanghai Winter School Program,
II. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or
III. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
