Students who have applied for the One Sydney Many People Scholarship or through the Gadigal entry pathway and have identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander will also be considered for the scholarship without having to complete a separate application form.

Background

This scholarship has been established to encourage and support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student to study engineering or a related discipline at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sydney.

1. Background

a. This scholarship has been established to encourage and support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student to study engineering or a related discipline at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be current school leavers who qualify for entry into an undergraduate program (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission to a bachelor’s degree (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. Applicants without an unconditional offer of admission may apply and be selected, however, no scholarship offer will be sent until the applicant has an unconditional offer of admission.

c. Applicants must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit based on the candidate’s performance in the NSW HSC or equivalent,
II. confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity as defined in the University of Sydney Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015, and
III. a personal statement demonstrating passion or motivation to pursue a career in engineering.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee comprised of a representative of CAE, and the Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Engineering, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 per annum and is tenable for up to 4 years.

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. Scholarship will be paid on a pro-rata basis based on the number of units passed capped at the maximum value of $40,000 for the duration of the degree.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior approval of the Associate Dean (Education) and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must remain enrolled in their undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
IV. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Other requirements

a. The recipient will be encouraged to partake in a paid internship or work experience; however, this will be a separate arrangement between CAE and the student
