Eligible students from the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program (summer and winter cohorts) will be automatically considered for this Scholarship shortly after completing the VRI program. No separate application will be required.

This Scholarship is funded by the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Sydney.
1. Background
a. This Accelerated Scholarship was established in 2024 to provide additional support for top participants of the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program with potential to publish a research paper, to continue working on their internship project for an agreed extended period during the semester immediately following the program.
b. This Scholarship is funded by the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Sydney.
2. Eligibility
a. Candidates must have satisfactorily completed the requirements of the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program.
b. Candidates should have been recipients of the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program Scholarship.
c. Candidates must continue to be enrolled in their degree in the semester immediately following the completion of the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program.
d. Candidates must be able to continue working on the same internship project on a part-time basis for no more than 3 months immediately following the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. performance during the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program, for example, on track to publish a research paper, and
II. nomination by their academic research supervisor.
b. The nomination will be reviewed, and scholarships will be awarded by the Chair of Dean’s Academic Working Group, Faculty of Engineering, or their nominated delegate(s).
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $1,500 and will be paid in two equal instalments. The first payment will be made at the mid-point of the project upon meeting the mid-project requirements which is to be confirmed by the research supervisor. The second payment will be made upon successful completion of the project requirements upon confirmation from the relevant research supervisor.
b. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
c. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing Eligibility
a. The recipients must enrol and continue to be enrolled in their degree in the semester immediately following the completion of the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program.
b. Recipients must maintain satisfactory performance of their research project to receive the scholarship payments as indicated in clause 4a.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from or fails to enrol in their enrolled degree at the time of award,
II. withdraws from the purpose for which the scholarship was awarded,
III. fails to maintain satisfactory progress during the research project or
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
