Recipients enrolled full-time, will receive the Scholarship valued at $1,500 per annum and is tenable for up to 2 years.

Recipients approved to enrol part-time, will receive the Scholarship valued at $750 per annum and is tenable for up to 4 years.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be currently enrolled full-time in your first or second year in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney
  • have either a:
    • Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 75 in at least two Indonesian Studies units, and a WAM of 70 for all other units
    • mark of 75% or above in HSC Indonesian Continuers or Extension, or
    • minimum ATAR of 90%
  • be enrolled in a minimum of one Indonesian unit of study at the University of Sydney in the first semester of the award
    • the unit(s) of study must not be an in-country study unit

Please note: applicants who currently hold a primary scholarship valued at $8,000 per annum or more are not eligible for this Scholarship.

1. Background

a. This Scholarship was established in 2023 to support undergraduate students studying Indonesian Studies at the University of Sydney.

b. This Scholarship has been donated by Dr Jolanda Allen.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled full-time in their first or second year in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must have either have:

I. a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 75 in at least two Indonesian Studies units, and a WAM of 70 for all other units, or

II. a mark of 75% or above in HSC Indonesian Continuers or Extension, or

III. a minimum ATAR of 90%.

c. Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of one Indonesian unit of study at the University of Sydney in the first semester of the award. The unit(s) of study must not be an in-country study unit.

d. Applicants who currently hold a primary scholarship valued at $8,000 per annum or more are not eligible for this Scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, consisting of WAM for continuing students and HSC marks for commencing students, and

II. personal statement explaining how the scholarship will assist you in in your studies and demonstrating your commitment to Indonesian Studies.

b. Preference will be given to applicants who:

I. demonstrate financial hardship, or

II. demonstrate leadership and/or creative skills, or

III. are enrolled in the Indonesian Studies major.

c. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures or their nominated delegate on the recommendation of the Chair of Indonesian Studies.

4. Value

a. Recipients enrolled full-time, will receive the Scholarship valued at $1,500 per annum and is tenable for up to 2 years.

b. Recipients approved to enrol part-time, will receive the Scholarship valued at $750 per annum and is tenable for up to 4 years.

c. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

d. Deferral and/or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures.

e. The Scholarship is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

g. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain:

I. a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 each semester, and

II. enrolment in a minimum of one Indonesian unit of study each semester for the subsequent 3 semesters at the University of Sydney. The units of study must not be in-country study units.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. commences part-time study without prior approval from the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures,

III. commences subsequent semester without enrolment into an Indonesian unit of study without prior approval from the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures,

IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
