Please join IA Watson Grains Research Centre staff in conjunction with the Sydney Institute of Agriculture for our annual field day.

This year's event will feature talks and field demonstrations from the University of Sydney, Australian Grain Technologies (AGT) and more, all under the theme of Foods for Thought.

Mums & Dads: bring the kids after school

20+ research and breeding displays and talks relevant to the Northern Region

  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm: complimentary BBQ in the field sponsored by Australian Grain Technologies
  • Special guest Michael Klausen, co-founder of Brasserie Bread and winner of the 2018 Royal Agricultural Society President’s Medal, speaking from a baker’s perspective about grain quality and food provenance followed by taste testing of loaves baked from single origin flour
  • Special guest Dr Steve Jefferies, Managing Director of GRDC  
  • Future foods & beverages: Sorghum, triticale, native grains and plant protein food displays & taste testing
  • The 4 Pines Brewing Company will be serving specially crafted beer from University of Sydney bred triticale grain
  • Future grains: Heat & drought tolerant wheat & chickpea, hybrid wheat and alternative crops for the northern regio
  • The release of two new AGT varieties
  • Future farming: Live automated detection of  ryegrass in wheat, soil moisture sensing, robotic farming and site specific nitrogen application
