One-to-one-support

Get assistance with assignment writing, time management, study techniques and more. The Learning Hub offers one-to-one individual support by drop-in or by appointment allowing you to choose an option that's right for you.

Our one-to-one services are available from the beginning of the semester, until the end of the formal exam period.

One-to-one consultations

Unlock your full academic potential with our personalised one-to-one consultations. Our expert Learning Success Advisors are dedicated to helping you develop essential graduate-level skills and overcome challenges in your academic journey.

We offer:

  • in-depth guidance on writing assignments and interpreting feedback

  • support for thesis writing and writing for publication
  • a developmental approach tailored to your unique needs.

Quick Chats

Have a quick question on your assignment? Our Drop-in Quick Chats are here for you! These brief, on-the-spot sessions with our friendly Learning Success Advisors offer immediate guidance on a range of academic skills.

We can help you:

  • understand your assignment question
  • clarify questions on citations and references
  • suggest improvements on your grammar
  • interpret assignment feedback.

Session times

Monday to Friday, 2-4 pm during semester.

No appointment needed! Simply visit the Learning Hub desk at the Fisher Library, level 3 (Service Desk area).

Workshops

  • writing a wide variety of genres including essays, reports and case studies
  • oral communication skills for tutorials and presentations
  • effective reading strategies
  • critical thinking.

Peer programs

Our peer-facilitated programs offer a unique opportunity to develop essential social and conversational skills while connecting with fellow students. These initiatives, including our popular Speak and Connect series, are designed to enrich your university journey and prepare you for future success.

All programs are free and delivered online via Zoom. Our range includes:

  • specialised workshops for research students
  • conversation workshops to enhance English skills
  • faculty-specific mentoring programs.

Speak and Connect

This flagship program consists of six weekly workshops designed to help you meet new friends, practise and develop your English language and communication skills, and give you lots of useful tips and strategies for connecting at university.

Registration for next year's program will open in early 2025. In the meantime, you can view the 2024 program for more information.


SCANA

The Student Communication and Needs Analysis (SCANA) is a powerful tool designed to enhance your academic journey at the University. This innovative program offers personalised insights and support to help you excel in your studies.

Key features:

  • A brief 15-minute online language screening task.
  • Personalised feedback on your academic language skills.
  • Tailored support plan based on your individual needs.

  • Receive targeted recommendations for skill improvement.
  • Access a range of support services and resources.

How it works:

  • Complete the short online task.
  • Receive an email with your personalised results.
  • Get connected to relevant support and resources.

SCANA has been proven to make a significant difference in students' academic performance. Our data show that students who engage with SCANA-recommended support tend to achieve higher grades. By participating, you'll be taking a proactive step towards academic success.

Self-access online resources

Study at your own pace with our online resources. Access self-paced courses and modules with short engaging videos and interactive tasks to develop your skills in your own time. 

Access the resources by logging in to Canvas.

Studiosity

Studiosity is an online service that you can use to receive feedback and guidance on your academic writing skills, all day, every day. Through Studiosity, you will receive feedback within a day. By selecting the 'Writing Feedback' option an adviser will provide comments and advice on structure and organisation, academic language, grammar, referencing and more.

Additionally, ‘Connect Live’ lets you can connect with a subject specialist. You will receive real-time interactive support. Your subject specialist can work through your questions using voice chat, text, or drawing diagrams on a whiteboard.

To access Studiosity, log in to our Learning Hub Canvas page and select ‘Studiosity: same-day feedback’. You'll need to create a free account before using the Writing Feedback and Connect Live services for the first time.

Alternatively, you'll see a link to access Studiosity on all units of study Canvas pages.


Refer a student to Learning Hub

Staff members looking to refer a student needing academic learning support can complete the referral form and Learning Hub will reach out directly to the student.
