Why it's easier to study overseas

Making the world you campus, made simple

From extending the winter break to broadening the eligibility criteria, here are all the latest changes and tools to help you combine study and travel during your degree.

Longer winter break

The new six-week winter break (22 June to 5 August) was introduced to provide more options (and time) to go on a short-term program, ranging from two to six weeks long. While it’ll be winter in Sydney and the rest of the Southern Hemisphere, there are many summer schools, programs and courses offered in the UK, Europe and North America for a perfect mid-year trip! Applications for these are now open on the Global Mobility Database.

New-Look Global Mobility Database

The Global Mobility Database is your one-stop shop for all the different international programs and experiences available during your degree. Must-know new features include:

-          Program Discovery: browse all the programs and search by city, country, area of study and course type. Don’t forget to hit the ‘Like’ button on any programs that catch your eye so you can see and share your favourites later

-          Campus info sessions: see when on-campus information sessions and drop-in advising events will be held. Run by knowledgeable Exchange Advisors, these sessions will help answer all your questions about destinations and applications!

-          Scholarships and funding options: find out which Scholarship opportunities and funding options are available when you undertake an overseas experience. For example, did you know if you go to one of our seven super exchange partners (National University of SingaporeUniversity of CaliforniaUniversity of CopenhagenUniversity of EdinburghUniversity of Hong KongUniversity of Toronto and Utrecht University), you’ll receive a $2000 scholarship!

Eligibility changes

With the aim to make global opportunities more accessible, the University’s minimum eligibility requirements for overseas study have changed. Students looking to undertake a global program for credit are now eligible if they have a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 50 and if they are successfully progressing in their course. Check out these eligibility requirements and more information on the Student Website.

Keep in mind that these are Sydney’s minimum requirements and you may need to meet further requirements of the host institution, such as higher grades, language ability, unit of study prerequisites and more before being accepted into a mobility program. You can see all the host university’s requirements on the Global Mobility Database.

Need some help choosing the perfect program for you? Fill out the form and one of our exchange advisors will be in touch with expert advice to help you decide your next step.
