This unit of study introduces students to ethical approaches in health innovation, as well as considering substantive ethical issues in a range of innovative health technologies. Topics covered span the diversity of health innovation, from basic science to research and clinical applications – for example, artificial intelligence, genomics and surgical innovation. Over-arching issues and cross-cutting themes in health innovation are also considered, including commercialisation and innovation in low-resource settings. Students will explore these topics in both class-based and self-paced learning and will develop their own position on key ethical concepts and issues in health innovation.
