This unit explores macroeconomic theory and policy in an open economy context, emphasising the interconnectedness of global markets. It examines the microfoundations of key economic sectors and their implications for international macroeconomic dynamics. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, foreign exchange markets, interest rate parity, exchange rate determination and intervention, the goods and money markets, and the international monetary system. The unit also analyses the role of policymakers and the effects of monetary, fiscal, and other macroeconomic policies on both small and large open economies under different exchange rate regimes.
