This unit will introduce students to a variety of critical approaches to reading and writing literature and explore the influence of major debates in literary and cultural theory on criticism and creative practice. In addition to developing advanced skills in identifying how and why different critical and theoretical approaches shape reading and writing literary texts, the unit aims to evaluate how effective and/or appropriate such strategies might be in specific cases, including students' own critical and creative practice.
