This core unit for the Master of Global Health will develop your awareness of the key practical skills for working in the field of global health. The content is grounded in global health concerns and aims to equip you with the core competencies to work in this complex field. The skills that you will develop will fall within three broad categories: 1. Situational assessment and understanding of local contexts, as well as the evidence and knowledge that shapes, describes and responds to global inequities - this will draw on your foundational understanding of methods developed in other MGH core units. 2. Communication (both oral and written) to tailor persuasive messaging to different audiences, including redressing misinformation, and fostering trust. You will also begin to develop your own critical and reflexive practice through an introduction to positionality, power, and privilege. 3. Strategically appraising and applying influence to maximise impact on reducing inequities. This interactive unit teaches both the principles of the skills and offers opportunities for you to practise and hone these skills for yourself. You will apply these skills to case studies, which you will develop over the course of the semester.
