MRSC5048: Simulated and Interprofessional Learning

Semester 2, 2023 [Normal day] - Camperdown/Darlington, Sydney

This unit of study aims to further allow students the opportunity to develop their clinical radiography skills in a supportive learning environment. This unit of study will be run on campus involving the use of simulated learning and the opportunity for interprofessional learning experiences. Students will be able to access the on campus simulation clinic and CT facilities. Students will undertake activities to assist in the further development of more complex patient communication, teamwork and professionalism skills. Introductory CT skills will also be included.

Assessment summary

  • Reflective journal: Students reflect on their participation in the five patient cases undertaken in the simulation clinic using the Gibb's Cycle 
  • Clinical assessment form: Each student will have a clinical assessment form completed by their facilitator at the end of each patient case, assessing their teamwork, communication (both with patients and staff) and professionalism skills. Each student will receive 2 completed clinical assessment forms.
  • MCQ 1 This examination will contain 20 multiple choice questions assessing the knowledge gained by students during the CT tutorials.
  • MCQ 2 This examination will contain 20 multiple choice questions assessing the knowledge gained by students during the image interpretation component of this unit of study.

Late submission

In accordance with University policy, these penalties apply when written work is submitted after 11:59pm on the due date:

  • Deduction of 5% of the maximum mark for each calendar day after the due date.
  • After ten calendar days late, a mark of zero will be awarded.

This unit has an exception to the standard University policy or supplementary information has been provided by the unit coordinator. This information is displayed below:

1.It is expected that unless an application for special consideration, special arrangement or previously arranged disability adjustment has approved an extension, students will submit all assessment for a unit of study on or before the due date specified. 2.If assessments are submitted after the due date or if an extension is not granted or is granted but work is submitted by the student after the extended due date, the late submission of assessment will result in an academic penalty. 3. For every calendar day up to and including ten calendar days after the due date, a penalty of 5% of the maximum awardable marks will be applied to late work. (a) The penalty will be calculated by first marking the work, and then subtracting 5% of the maximum awardable mark for each calendar day after the due date. 4. Simple extensions

If you encounter a problem submitting your work on time, you may be able to apply for an extension of five calendar days through a simple extension.  The application process will be different depending on the type of assessment and extensions cannot be granted for some assessment types like exams.

Special consideration

If exceptional circumstances mean you can’t complete an assessment, you need consideration for a longer period of time, or if you have essential commitments which impact your performance in an assessment, you may be eligible for special consideration or special arrangements.

Special consideration applications will not be affected by a simple extension application.

Attendance and class requirements

Attendance: It is expected that all students must attend the compulsory orientation lecture in week 1. Students must also attend all classes and learning activities conducted in the simulation laboratory. Students are expected to achieve a minimum 80% attendance record at all other lectures, tutorials and practical classes. Records will be kept of a students’ attendance at practical and tutorial classes, which may be taken into consideration when the final unit of study mark is determined.

Study commitment

Typically, there is a minimum expectation of 1.5-2 hours of student effort per week per credit point for units of study offered over a full semester. For a 6 credit point unit, this equates to roughly 120-150 hours of student effort in total.

Work, health and safety

Work, health and safety requirements

As you are completing a health-related degree, there are clinical checks and clearances you will need to complete before you can undertake placement. You can find more information at:

You will need to be verified by NSW Health by the date specified in the critical dates Calendar in preparation for your first placement in a Local Health District. Students who are not verified will NOT be able to attend placement.

Further, students must have an up-to-date declaration (in Sonia) that they have read and understood key documents related to privacy and confidentiality, codes of conduct, NSW Health policies and general communication/ email ettiquette. Failure to meet these requirements may prevent you being allocated to and/orcompleting a placement or placement unit of study irrespective of your enrolment status.

Consistent with New South Wales WHS legislation, you are required to complete a WHS induction within the first few days of placement, and if relevant, at any time your placement requires you to work in another setting. This is an essential legal requirements to ensure that all risks are minimised for you, and others for whom you are responsible. The University has a duty of care to you to ensure you have been inducted appropriately. Similarily you are responsible for demonstrating that you are aware of and know how to manage risk.
