This unit of study will provide students with the opportunity to learn and perform music of different cultures and traditions of the world. In addition to classical guitar, the unit focuses on learning the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic features and techniques of flamenco, bossa nova, rock and various folk guitar traditions. Through practical exercises, students will develop their guitar playing skills in reading sheet music, and tabs, playing scales, arpeggios, chords, and understanding basic music style concepts. By the end of the course, students will have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of guitar playing and will be able to play simple pieces in a group setting.
