This unit of study explores the financial aspects of new venture creation. Students will learn of the various sources of funding available to startups depending on their respective business model, and the opportunities and challenges in acquiring and utilising these types of finance. Students will examine how the wider context of a startup can influence funding opportunities and understand how financials can be used to validate new business ideas. In groups, students will develop their own bootstrap finance plans, present these plans to their peers, and place themselves in the role of venture capitalists in evaluating the financial plans of fellow students.
