Small animal surgery

UVTHS offers total hip replacement surgeries using the Helica System, designed by Dr. Volker Hach, head of the veterinary clinic Tierärztliche Klinik für Kleintiere located in Frankfurt, Germany. The system is cementless, less invasive, has reduced operative time for implantation, and mimics the biomechanical forces through the femur of an intact hip joint. The system has a reduced incidence of femoral fractures and luxations postoperatively; and because it does not use cement, it can last up to 10 years or more.

The service also offers platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) specifically formulated for dogs to stimulate recovery from injuries to tendons, ligaments and joints including shoulder rotator cuff injuries, Achilles tendon injuries, and groin strains (iliopsoas myopathy).

Small animal rehabilitation and physical therapy

UVTHS offers consultations and development of therapeutic plans by a board-certified sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist (American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation). We also offer a wide range of therapeutic modalities for the management of many conditions including arthritis, neurological injuries, tendon and ligament injuries, sports and working dog conditioning and geriatric patient conditioning. Our service can provide hospitalised patient support or outpatient/day stay patient treatments.
