About the Research Affiliate Program

We aim to attract talented, substantively progressed PhD students, postdoctoral students and junior lecturers who have funding from their university or a recognised institution to visit a prestigious university outside their home country for at least six months and up to two years as a means of enhancing academic research training.

We are looking for talented, ambitious, early career researchers who have:

  • funding from a recognised body
  • a research agenda that fits with the discipline’s expertise.

The University values courage and creativity, openness and engagement, inclusion and diversity and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance in appointing Affiliates aligned to these values in the pursuit of research excellence.

Each successful applicant will be allocated a mentor with whom they will work closely on research projects reflecting the mentor and applicant’s interests. In addition, the mentor will offer advice to the applicant regarding the applicant’s own research projects.

The intended outcome of all research projects on which the mentor and applicant work together is co-authored articles in top-tier journals.

Access to world-leading visiting Professors such as Adam Duhachek, Shai Danziger, Peter Naudé and Ian Wilkinson will complement this training. Affiliates will also have the opportunity to train with with visiting scholars and attend a broad range of research seminars.

Each affiliate will be provided with a computer and desk space embedded within the Discipline’s offices in the Business School, access to the University of Sydney libraries and wifi, printing facilities and a university email account.

The Discipline will provide $1,000 each 6 months for research expenses.

The Discipline will review applications in three rounds each year, with closing dates 15 February, 15 June and 15 October. Affiliate applicants will be assessed based on their educational background, quality of research output thus far and fit with the expertise and research interests of Discipline academics.

We ask that you provide:

  • your CV
  • a letter of motivation
  • a brief research proposal/statement of research interest
  • evidence of publications (if available)

Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to participate in Skype interviews and assigned a short academic analytical task to round out their application.

Successful applicants will be advised within a month of their Skype interview. A research activity plan will then be developed, which will support a letter of invitation issued by the University so that appropriate visas can be obtained.
