Balancing both old and new, the Precinct offers a space unlike any other to foster the next generation of engineers, students, and leading researchers.
The J03 building consists of nine levels containing students spaces and cutting-edge research labs.
It flows seamlessly from the previous J03 Electrical Engineering Building via a spectacular glass atrium, connecting our legacy with our future. Situated in the heart of engineering at the Camperdown/Darlington campus and adjacent to Cadigal Green, the building was designed by COX Architecture and built by Laing O'Rourke based on the University of Sydney's Wingara Mura design principles.
Placing sustainability at the heart of its design, J03 has been awarded a 4 Star Green Star.
The building has been designed to include energy-efficient lighting, improved indoor air quality features, a solar photovoltaic system on the roof, promotion of sustainable transport, and surface heat reduction conscious landscape design.

Primarily an education space, the design of the Shepherd Street Building (J15) includes flowing open spaces to encourage collaboration between all staff and students, and promote conversations, learning, and engagement.

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney hosts a wide range of specialised laboratories and facilities that support both research and teaching. These spaces are equipped to accommodate work across disciplines including aerospace, biomedical engineering, computer science, and environmental systems. Key facilities include a 30-metre wave flume for fluid dynamics research, an immersive virtual reality lab, and a CASA-approved site for testing uncrewed aerial vehicles.
Many of the labs are unique within Australia, such as those focused on electroceuticals, implantable devices, and high-performance reconfigurable computing. These facilities enable researchers and students to engage in applied, interdisciplinary work that addresses real-world problems. They also support partnerships with industry, providing the infrastructure needed for collaborative innovation and technology development.
