Professor Uy has established himself as a world-renowned researcher and leader in the areas of steel and composite structures. He has co-authored over 180 scholarly journal publications on the topic and serves on the editorial board of 14 international journals for structural engineering.

The $600 million investment in the Engineering and IT precinct over the next decade was one of the many reasons Professor Uy decided to join the University of Sydney.

“The investment will ensure staff and students have access to world-class learning, teaching and research environments,” said Professor Uy.

“This is a once in a career opportunity to be able to shape the future of civil engineering education and research in one of the world’s leading universities.”

Professor Uy’s appointment brings valuable academic and industry proficiency to the faculty and provides a great opportunity for the school to continue to flourish.

“I hope to engage our local, national and international industries and government agencies to encourage them to partner with the School. By achieving this I have no doubt the School of Civil Engineering will maintain and strengthen its national and international leading role in civil engineering education and research,” said Professor Uy.

Professor Uy officially starts his new role with the faculty on 14 November.
