Logistics and Supply Chain Management coursework programs - Course structures

Course structures


Master of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

To be awarded the Master of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, students complete units of study totalling 60 credit points, comprising:

  • 42 credit points in core units of study, including foundation, advanced and a capstone unit; and
  • 18 credit points in elective units of study.


Graduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

To be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, students complete units of study totalling 36 credit points, comprising:

  • 24 credit points in core units of study, comprising foundation and advanced units; and
  • 12 credit points in elective units of study.


Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, students complete 24 credit points in core units of study, comprising foundation and advanced units.

Core units of study


(1) Foundation

Students must complete the following 12 credit points in foundation units of study:

  • ITLS5000 Foundations of Supply Chain Management (must be completed in first semester of study)#
  • ITLS5200 Quantitative Logistics and Transport

# Students demonstrating extensive practical experience in the logistics industry may apply to substitute ITLS5000 Foundations of Supply Chain Management with an alternative unit of study listed for the program. Students should send their resume with a covering email outlining their experience to the Program Director, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at business.itlslogistics@sydney.edu.au.

(2) Advanced

Students in the master’s degree must complete all of the following advanced units of study (24 credit points). Students in the graduate diploma and graduate certificate complete only: ITLS6003 and ITLS6004 (12 credit points).

  • ITLS6002 Supply Chain Planning and Design
  • ITLS6003 Contemporary Procurement
  • ITLS6004 Warehouse and Inventory Management
  • ITLS6101 Global Freight Logistics Management.


(3) Capstone (Master's degree only)

Students in the master’s degree must complete the six credit point capstone unit of study in their final semester of study:

  • ITLS6090 Logistics and Supply Chain Project.

Elective units of study

Students enrolled in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management courses choose their elective units of study as follows:

  • Master's degree: 18 credit points in elective units
  • Graduate diploma: 12 credit points in elective units.

  • ITLS6101 Global Freight Logistics Management #
  • ITLS6106 Infrastructure Appraisal
  • ITLS6107 GIS for Transport & Logistics
  • ITLS6300 Maritime Management and Logistics
  • ITLS6301 Ports Management
  • ITLS6400 Airline Strategy and Supply Chains
  • ITLS6401 Airport Management
  • ITLS6403 Cases in Global Transport and Logistics
  • ITLS6500 Decision Making on Mega Projects
  • ITLS6900 Research Case Study I (Master’s students only and departmental permission required)
  • ITLS6901 Research Case Study II (Master’s students only and departmental permission required).

# Note. ITLS6002 and ITLS6101 are electives for the graduate diploma only. Students in the master’s degree must complete these units as core units.

* Not offered in 2016.
