4 Embedded courses in this sequence

The embedded courses in this sequence are:

Providing candidates satisfy the admission requirements for each stage, a candidate may progress to the award of any of the courses in this sequence and receive full credit for work completed in the prior award. Only the highest award completed will be conferred.

5 Streams

(1)
The Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Science, Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science and Master of Biomedical Science are available in the following streams:
(a)
Advanced Diagnostics and Prognostics
(b)
Cancer
(c)
Genomics and Precision Medicine
(d)
Infection and Immunity
(2)
Students must complete the requirements for the award within the stream in which they are admitted.
(3)
Candidates wishing to transfer between streams should contact the relevant stream Program Director.

6 Admission to candidature

(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria. In exceptional circumstances the Delegated Authority may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in their opinion, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.
(2)
Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Science requires a bachelor’s degree or higher award in science, medical or veterinary science, biomedical science, health science or a health-related discipline from the University of Sydney, or qualifications deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent.
(3)
Admission to the Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science requires:
(a)
A bachelor’s degree or higher award in science, medical or veterinary science, biomedical science, health science or a health-related discipline, from the University of Sydney, or qualifications deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent; or
(b)
Completion of the requirements of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Science in the relevant stream.
(4)
Admission to the Master of Biomedical Science requires:
(a)
A bachelor’s degree with honours in science, medical or veterinary science, biomedical science, health science or a health-related discipline from the University of Sydney, or qualifications deemed by the faculty to be equivalent; or
(b)
A bachelor’s degree plus a postgraduate degree in science, medical or veterinary science, biomedical science, health science or a health-related discipline with a minimum WAM 65 in each degree; or
(c)
A bachelor’s degree in science, medical or veterinary science, biomedical science, health science or a healthrelated discipline with a minimum WAM 65 plus a minimum of 24 months relevant work experience; or
(d)
Completion of the requirements of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Science (Stream) or Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science (Stream).

7 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the courses are set out in the Table A for the Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Science (Stream), the Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science (Stream) and the Master of Biomedical Science (Stream).
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate of Biomedical Science (Stream) a candidate must complete 24 credit points, including:
(a)
12 credit points of core units of study; and
(b)
12 credit points of stream selective units of study.
(3)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science (Stream) a candidate must complete 36 credit points, including:
(a)
12 credit points of core units of study, and
(b)
a minimum of 18 and maximum of 24 credit points of stream selective units of study, and
(c)
a maximum 6 credit points of elective units of study.
(4)
To qualify for the award of the Master of Biomedical Science (Stream) a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:
(a)
12 credit points of core units of study, and
(b)
12 credit points of capstone selective units of study, and
(c)
a minimum of 18 and maximum of 24 credit points of stream selective units of study, and
(d)
a minimum of 0 and a maximum 6 credit points of elective units of study.

8 Award of the master’s degree, graduate diploma and graduate certificate

(1)
The Master of Biomedical Science (Stream), Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Science (Stream) and Graduate Certificate of Biomedical Science (Stream) courses within these resolutions shall be awarded in the stream in which the candidate enrols. The testamur for the degree shall specify the stream.

9 Course Transfer

(1)
A candidate for the master’s degree may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a graduate diploma or a graduate certificate from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the Dean, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.
(2)
A candidate for the graduate diploma may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a graduate certificate from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the Head of School and Dean, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met in the same stream.
(3)
A candidate for the graduate certificate or graduate diploma may elect to transfer to a higher award in the same stream, provided the admission requirements of the higher award are met.

10 Commencement

(1)
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2021.
